Konawe Regency

Konawe is one of regencies in the province of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The capital of this Regency is located in Unaaha. Once Regency was named District Kendall. This district has an area of 16,480 km ² and a population of 443 911 (2000). Konawe known as the rice granary in the province of Southeast Sulawesi. Half of the province's rice production comes from Konawe.

History

Konawe regency established pursuant to Act number 29 of 1959 on the formation of second-level region in Southeast Sulawesi, with the name of the district with the capital Kendari in Kendari.

When first enacted Law no. 6 year 1995 on the Establishment of Municipality of Kendari. Konawe Region consists of 19 districts with 334 villages. In 2002 Konawe consists of 23 districts with 631 villages. The south Regency is formed into South Konawe Regency covering 11 districts.

Based on Government Regulation No. 26 of 2004, September 28, 2004 changed its name to Konawe.
